so, what little i know about the #music biz is that “Ed Sheeran” is NOT Ed Sheeran when on tour. “Ed Sheeran” is a company that contracts THOUSANDS of workers ―many unionized―; so it takes on ALL THE LIABILITY of Ed Sheeran not performing.

and this is by design: media companies won't pay musicians their fair share to force them to take on the “externalities” of tours.

THIS ISN'T AN EXCUSE but “Ed Sheeran” not touring would fuck thousands of workers.

Oof, September is half over and I hadn't gotten around to updating my list of music from August. I mean, I saved the playlist and whatnot, but yea - need to provide said update.

So, let's get into my top most listened to songs for the month of August from my offline listening library:

Interesting shift. Mothica remains, as she has most months, in the Top 10, but also MCR climbed up as I listened to a LOT of MCR in August in preparation for seeing them live. It was a great show, so glad I got to hear more of them.

Also, my love of Starset is showing as Dark Things is back in my Top 10 for the second month in a row.

The tie for 7th extends down to the full Top 10 for the year. Which is wild.

For August - top most listnened to artist was MCR and the album was The Black Parade. Fitting, cause again - saw them live for the Long Live the Black Parade tour.

We will see what September brings, if there's shifts or new songs added to the lists.

I'm sorting some music that was named and published in Chinese originally, and ooh boy how all the titles vary depending on the source.

Starting with the first item in the collection - the first album by the Kelly Chen Wai-lam:
- in the files it is named "Drunk Sensation"
- on Wikipedia - "Intoxicated Lover (醉迷情人)"
- on Discogs simply "醉迷情人"

- On Google Translate that's "Intoxicating Lover".
- On deepl with Cantonese - "Drunk On Love" and with Chinese - "Drunken Lover" (also "Drunk In Love" and "Intoxicated Lover"

I guess I'd follow Discogs and rename all directories into Chinese.

@djsundog Way back on Second Life, I made a jukebox for like US$10 that took whisper messages from owner or anyone on a whitelist card put in it, & played them as media URLs; it could play video but it was drawn over the album cover so that wasn't really useful.

… I don't think I have a screenshot of it, but you can see the edge of it to the left in my office. (everything in there was functional, the wood block & knob was an arcade game I hadn't made a case for yet).

This is my semi-regular request for suggestions on a replacement for #Readerware, whose author has passed away so it's no longer maintained. Requirements: I need to catalogue #books, #music and #video; no subscription; no cloud bullshit; must be able to import/export in a sensible format such as CSV; must support all major platforms (ie Mac and Linux); support for FreeBSD would be nice; prefer a desktop application, not complicated client/server stuff.
