In all honesty?. No idea ..
I don't use third party clients .. most of them are written without in mind, so I really don't expect them to be a good alternative for
Should you (or anyone for that matter) come across a third party client that treats as a first class citizen, please let me know and I'll install it right away on my Android phone.
Other than that, the web interface has always work wonders for me =)

And I want to thank @grunfink for creating and maintaining snac. Tomorrow I’ll talk about FediMeteo at DevConf, and it would never have come to be if it weren’t for snac and for the help the author gave me in fixing some things to optimize its use.

Long IT and config issue rambling ;) [SENSITIVE CONTENT]I added a custom theme to snac.
If you want to, you can view it at https://night.studio-2am.net/onion (I'm assuming you're using some sort of client)

            But... what a process... (۳˚Д˚)۳
It's so emblematic of what doing anything in IT feels like.

            Let's go through it?

The main snac repo links to a bunch of custom themes, each of which is a .css file.
There is no clear indication on where to put the file, but a style.css exists in the data directory, and digging a bit seems to confirm that replacing the file should apply the custom theme instead.

I did that, but the page then appeared like unstyled HTML.
More digging around, checking the page source... it sometimes seemed to mention the theme by name, but the href to the stylesheet was empty? Maybe I overlooked something?
Tried to put a user-specific style.css instead, made sure permissions are OK, checked what gets returned by curl etc etc ... nothing seemed to work. Nothing made sense.

I gave up. Deleting the custom .css and restarting snac recreates the default .css file.

One last try: I copied and pasted the contents of the custom theme into the default .css, then deleted the default values.
Maybe at first the browser had something cached, because it still didn't show a change (even with a "hard-reload"...)

I thought "This can't be." and tried putting the custom css alongside the defaults, but changing the text alignment of the username to "left" instead of "center", just to see if the changes would take effect.
And there it was, the custom theme!

So now it's applied, and I have no idea why this took like 2 hours of pulling hair.
All is well that ends well.
Just a bit frustrating when there's no "a-ha!" because I didn't find what was wrong after all.

Anyways, enough rambling for today. Take care. :)

CW: Spicy take about Mastodon (specifically) [SENSITIVE CONTENT]

If you really believe in the silly 500 character limit, then why the heck is everyone posting "3/12" continuation threads?

Either the limit is a good idea, and nobody should post multi-part toots, or its a dumb idea, and should be retired (in favor of a ~6k post limit). One or the other. Cut the crap, already.

I'd 100x rather see long posts shortened with a "See more" button than yet another toot that ends with "1/" 🤦🏻‍♂️

Forcing people to create threads just to get their thought across is terrible UX, and I'm tired of being diplomatic about it.

              #Mastodon #GoToSocial #GtS #snac #fediverse

Edit: I forgot, it's 500, not 250. I was probably thinking of Twitter, which went from 140 to 280, and now who even knows. XD

I've just published version 2.93 of , the simple, minimalistic instance server written in C. It includes the following changes:

Added a new admirations entry point to the web UI, containing a timeline of liked, boosted and reacted posts. Please take note that, after installing the new version, it will start empty, and be filled with subsequent reactions (contributed by violette).

It's now possible to disable showing posts in a given set of languages.

Nested quoted posts are limited up to 3 levels.

New configuration knob: by setting keep_replies_posts to true in server.json, remote posts that a local user has replied to are retained in the public timeline, preventing them from being purged (contributed by hanchan).

New configuration knob: by setting keep_replied_me to true in server.json, remote replies to local posts are retained in the public timeline, preventing them from being purged (contributed by hanchan).

Ensure actors' public key PEM never includes anything after the end marker.

Fixed some memory leaks (contributed by inz).

Several additional keyId checks (many thanks to lainsoykaf for bringing this to my attention).

Fixed crash in the JSON parser (many thanks to nullenvk for bringing this to my attention).

Mastodon API: fixed lost custom emojis after edition (contributed by e0w0e).

Updated French, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Spanish translations (contributed by dragondaddy, daltux, zen).

                      https://comam.es/what-is-snac

If you find useful, please consider buying grunfink a coffee or contributing via LiberaPay.

Two things you can see here... It's pretty hot! That's why I stayed home and implemented a missing feature into snac. That's what you can also see - it finally sends push notifications to devices! In this case, we can see notifications coming from App for iPhone.

What we can also see, it's still a bit faulty and not the expected content, but a first success here at least ;) I'll make some further adjustments when there's time and get in touch with @grunfink@comam.es to check if we can get this upstream. Thanks to @stefano@bsd.cafe for testing with me :)
