This is my new, future account. While most interaction still happen on the bsd.cafe one, I aim to migrate fully here.

I am posting mostly culture, emacs, bsd and anti-ai based ramblings. I don't curse and I try not bait people into pointless anger rages.

I am a nerd (or dork? I don't know), a software engineer and I started to hate what technology has bacame.

This is a self-hosted, single-user instance running on snac2.

(I own Apple TV 4. If anyone says that the mouse bottom-powering was their worst idea, you are wrong. The remote is the worst. I have never used it correctly the first time, and having a touchpad there instead of buttons was a foundational mistake.)

@michal yeah the remote is terrible!
I did find in the settings a way to turn off the stupid touch pad, which solved 70% of the issues I have with it.

Though, if you need to “kill” an app because it’s malfunctioning, I have yet to find a way other than re-enabling the touch aspect, and swiping up from the app changer.

Seriously Apple software is a confusing mess atm.

Personally, I'm thinking of switching to Nvidia Shield. The non-4k doesn't have enough CPU cycles for the HEVC era. The remote is just the cherry on top.

@michal Ah i thought the Shield was their little hand held, but I realise now that was years ago!
We're pretty embedded into Apple in our household, so don't think we'll be switching any time soon. Nor do we need the higher compression rates etc. Just not that much of a tv nerd 😅.

But the remote and general software is such a let down, for a device that is still a decent step up from Amazons fire cube / sticks etc, or anything built into a "smart" t.v.

So were we. I even used their routers!

Not anymore. My wife has (my old) iPhone and (my old) iPad. The iPad is a decade old and still rocks, but me? I'm out, and they won't pull me back in.
