Missing option: I've never lived anywhere that required you to renew a library card. Mind don't have dates on them. After some period of inactivity they may need some confirmation that I still live there, but there's no explicit timeout.

I have a card for my local library but I haven't used it much since they started charging to reserve books. I used to reserve 1-2 books I wanted to read and then go in and collect them and usually pick up 3-4 others at the same time after browsing. Now that they charge, I don't reserve books and that removes my reason for scheduling time to go into the library, so I also don't get around to browsing.

@jwildeboer I have one, but rarely used it. I use their online services more often. The card does not need to be renewed, but I am member of their 'Förderverein' which has a annual fee. The fee is to finance events and some extra services of the library

In Denmark you can register at any public library (or online) with your national health card - a card you scan when you use our free healthcare system - and that's it, it now functions as a library card too.

Many libraries are open 24/7 unstaffed and you just scan the card, type a pin, and you're in.

We use this a lot - this week we took 50(!) books back, mainly books the kids have been reading, and took out another 30 or so.

@jwildeboer Ours is completely useless for me. They have a lot of books for children (which we use very often) and for the grownups...well...a lot of books about love and stuff, obviously targeted at women. Lots of pastel-colored covers. No Science Fiction or anything else that suits my taste.

For those with perpetual library cards, I hear you. Just vote with Yes, will renew if you plan to keep on using the library or No if you don't plan to do that. I only have 4 options, so some ambiguity is unavoidable. Thanks!
